Super Typhoon Ragasa intensifies four levels in 30 hours, with maximum wind speeds expected to reach 220 km/h

Tropical Cyclone Ragasa has intensified by four levels within 30 hours and reached super typhoon status by 2:00 am today (Sept. 21). Hong Kong Observatory forecasts that Ragasa will pass south of the Jiapeng Islands in Zhuhai, approximately 70 kilometers south of the Observatory, during the day on Wednesday (Sept. 24). Due to its massive circulation, winds of Force 10 (storm-level) exceeding 100 kilometers per hour could cover the entirety of Hong Kong.

5 E6 D1 p/ I+ u; J1 JThe tropical cyclone Ragasa intensified from a tropical depression at 2 am on September 18 to a super typhoon by 2 am on September 21, showcasing rapid strengthening over three days. Within 30 hours from 8 pm last Friday (Sept. 19), it escalated four levels:

According to the Observatory's forecast at 2 am today, the Super Typhoon Ragasa is expected to enter the warning area 800 kilometers southeast of Hong Kong on Monday night (Sept. 22), moving to 600 kilometers southeast by 2 am on Tuesday (Sept. 23). At that time, the maximum sustained wind speed near the center is predicted to reach 220 kilometers per hour, moving within 400 kilometers of Hong Kong by evening. Ragasa is anticipated to come closest to Hong Kong on Wednesday (Sept. 24), passing south of the Jiapeng Islands in Zhuhai, approximately 100 kilometers north of Sha Tau Kok in Hong Kong. |
