a cognitive-behavioral approach (SEAS), and patients are empowered to develop their own individual treat- ment protocol via experiential learning (integrated scoliosis rehabilitation). The goal in these newer techniques is for the patient and professionals to work together as a team. These new techniques aim to stimulate a new direction of research that constantly reflects, evaluates, and alters practice and does not simply accept the previous ideas and concepts.
9 E- X' z. d0 t2 q, i& t' K# zUnfortunately, we have found only one short-term RCT (Wan, Wang, and Bian, 2005) that is the strongest research design from which to draw valid conclusions about the effectiveness of a therapeutic intervention (Reilly and Findley, 1989). This is due, probably, to the fact that rehabilitation is one of the fields in medicine in which a researcher trying to conduct an RCT is most likely to run into difficulties (ethical and logistic). So the level of evidence remains at 1b according to the Oxford Centre for Evidence- based Medicine (Phillips et al, 2001), as described in a previous systematic review.
